"You shouldn't. Th' lot of them are jus' spoutin' off nonsense fer no reason." He grumbled under his breath and reached in his pocket for his pack of cigarettes. But stopped dead when he read what she wrote next.

"I ..." He was entirely unprepared for this sort of situation. "'f all th' people here you wanna be talkin' t' the janitor?"

That was more of a stall while his brain tried to process what was happening right now.
